Some Expedition Highlights:
🐧Penguins! Yes, I will see lots of penguins in their natural habitat.

We have special permission to visit Isla de los Estados, aka Staten Island of South America, meaning I will be one of very few people who ever get to experience this remote and lushish island. (It's so remote there is not even a Google Street view-a fact my students found astonishing.) This is also where the replica of Jules Verne's famous lighthouse at the end of the world is located.

Tierra del Fuego is often referred to as one of Patagonia’s crown jewels. We have special permission to explore the protected area of Karukinka on Tierra del Fuego.

Weather permitting, we will navigate the notoriously dangerous waters around Cape Horn. We will cruise the Beagle Channel and navigate the tight maze-like channels in the Chilean fjords.

I will be aboard the National Geographic Explorer, which is an expedition ship specifically designed for blue waters and polar exploration. Aboard the ship will be Lindblad naturalists, underwater specialists, historians, biologists, and National Geographic photographers that I get to learn from. One of the other really cool parts of the expedition is that the bridge is always open. Meaning, I will be able to learn directly from the captain and navigation crew at any time.

I will be exploring with two other Grosvenor Teacher Fellows on my expedition. Shannon (pictured second from right) is a Kindergarten and outdoor education teacher in
Saskatchewan, Canada. Evan (not pictured) is an AP Government, US History, and Spanish teacher at West Philadelphia High School. Our diverse educational backgrounds will allow us to see and experience this expedition from different lenses and learn from each other to bring the best learning back to our students and school communities.
